I haven’t written a lot since the protests against police brutality began. I’ve taken a lot of time to study, and understand more, about the movement in general. I encourage you all to as well.
This blog will not be about that particular movement, but will instead update you on the absolute abhorrent conduct of the Commander in Chief since my last blog. It has become clear over the last month, that there is absolutely not bottom to the madness, corruption, negligent behavior, and criminality that president is willing to engage in.
Let’s start with the protests. During the largely peaceful demonstrations, the president has shown nothing but contempt for people exercising their first amendment rights. He has encouraged vigilantism against protesters. This has led to at least two deaths in the last week alone, one in Louisville, Kentucky and another in New Mexico. You have had him deploy soldiers on American soil in a show of force against the protesters in D.C. in addition to tear gassing protesters in Lafayette park in order to obtain a photo of himself in front of a church (he doesn’t attend) holding a Bible (a book he has never read) upside-down. Not only he is an insult to American Democracy, he is an insult to Christianity as well. His rhetoric has enabled more police brutality towards journalists who are covering the protests as well. They are simply doing their jobs, covering the protests and yet they are being attacked, brutality by the police. The police, obviously hold some accountability, but when you have a president who routinely refers to the press as the “enemy of the people,” this is bound to happen. The video linked above, is not the only one. There are plenty out there.
The attacks on the first amendment, specifically surrounding protests and the press, would be enough to sink any other political leader at any other time in American history. However, that is not where it ends with him.
Of course, the president went back to racism recently, in order to fire up his base of supporters. He retweeted this video, in which eight seconds in, has one of his supporters shouting “white power.” In the tweet, he referred to them as “Great people”
This doesn’t need any pseudo-analysis from me. All I’ll say, if you support Trump, you support white supremacy. It’s quite simple. He has done nothing to make anyone think the contrary. Him and his team aren’t even smart enough PR wise to just admit he tweeted without watching the video. Rather they claimed he thought the guy yelling white power was “joking.” The whole incident is a microcosm of his entire presidency. It is nothing but racist, corrupt, buffoonery.
Obviously the open racism of the president in the last month is terrible, but it is something that the general public is already aware of. Many people voted for him in 2016 due to is his racist and sexist rhetoric. It’s the dog whistle culture war the the GOP has been waging for decades. The only difference is Trump uses a bullhorn instead of a dog whistle. But this isn’t even the bottom of his presidency.
At the same time the president was mismanaging a pandemic, tweeting racist things, enabling police brutality, and deploying American soldiers against American Citizens, he was also actively engaged in the worst examples of corruption in U.S. history. Disgraced national security advisor and cowardly war-monger, John Bolton released his book (do not buy it under any circumstance, all the key parts are out anyway). In his book, he details how Trump was begging China to help him become re-elected to the point where he encouraged the Chinese use of concentration camps against their Muslim residents. In public, he has been silent about this human atrocity happening. In private, it looks as if he has been using his racism to find ways to corrupt our elections. This should scare you. If, arguably, the most liberal president of all time (FDR) was willing to put Asian immigrants and Asian-American citizens into concentration camps, surely and openly racist, far-right president would be willing to as well.
But the bottom doesn’t even end there! In perhaps the worst offense of any U.S. president in history, at least since World War II, the president was allowing U.S. soldiers to be killed as a part of a Russian bounty program, where the Russians paid Taliban fighters in Afghanistan to kill American and British forces. The AP has reported that the administration was made aware of this over a year ago. They are claiming that the president was never briefed even though this issue was in his daily briefings regularly. These reports have been confirmed by intelligence officials. In the best case scenario, Trump is asleep at the wheel, and not reading intelligence briefings that show troops in his command and other allied forces are at risk. This in of itself is criminally negligent. At worst, it shows the President is deferring to Russia even when it comes to the lives of our own American soldiers. This is, of course, not our of the realm of possibilities given that he has already tried to extort Ukraine for information on a political opponent while using the Russians as leverage. What else is he doing behind the scenes? What other corrupt practices is he engaging in to get reelected? It is clear, he is nothing more than a treasonous poison on our democracy.
What else do we need to see? What else do I even have to write about? I started this blog as a way to point out how Trump and the GOP were working to undermine our democracy and out institutions because I thought it may not be obvious to some. I just wrote about some absolutely terrible things he has done in just the last month and didn’t even bring up the fact that he is still using the DOJ to fire independent prosecutors who are investigating him.
On their face, each thing I mentioned should be grounds for removal from office. That won’t happen because of the spineless, gutless, cowards that make up senate GOP. The election in November is going to be a referendum on our democracy. If you vote for Trump, you are voting for fascism. If you vote for Trump, you are voting for racism, If you vote for Trump, you are voting for a man who does not care if our troops live or die if there is a benefit. If you vote for Trump, you are voting for someone who encourages concentration camps for minority groups. If you vote for Trump, you are voting for someone who wakes up and thinks only about the good of himself, rather than the good of the American people.
Over the next few months, I will be adding some blogs to this site on why you should cast your vote for Joe Biden. There are plenty of terrible things to say about Trump. I have already done plenty of that. They speak for themselves. If you read these blogs and see the things he does and still want to vote for him, you are a lost cause. If you are angered, but do not know a lot about what Biden stands for and are nervous because you don’t usually vote for democrats, please reach out to me.
